"Nette KutzUp" was a name created for Tanette McMillan because cutting is what she does best and where she likes to brand her style. Whether its a short Cut, a cut requiring a very tightly blended fade or a weave cut. Ta"Nette" can Kutup to high expectations and standards, hence the name "Nette KutzUp" being developed.
"Nette KutzUp" began styling hair at a very young age. She began with helping in the salon where she and her mother would go to get their hair styled on weekends. She and her mother would visit Jeffries Hair Salon, in Glenburnie, MD. Which where she attributes to falling for the hair industry.
She always admired, how her then stylist, Valerie Washington could style so many styles. Also, how she could and would make people feel good. Prepared them for their week to come, or their event, that they came to her, to be styled to be beautiful for.
Tanette was enthralled by the environment of happy beautiful women. Just, the ease of talking, having fun, laughing, enjoying life and maintaining beauty regimens. It truly never really seemed like work, just a fun place to be. And a reassuring, that women are beautiful.
Tanette's stylist, asked her, did she want to help out on Saturday's. She was so excited to do so. She began working at 12 on her summer vacations from school. That's when she realized this is what she discovered her desire to achieve, in the beauty and hair industry. Making women feel beautiful and men feel handsome.
"Nette KutzUp", then went on to styling hair as a teenager. Seeing that it was an extra income, she began doing a lot of Natrual braiding styles and weaves.
She understood that being licensed, was very important to be seriously considered in the industry.
Her first step to becoming a licensed stylist was to attend, The Baltimore Studio of Hair Design in 2004, she studied hard and applied herself and completed the accelerated stylist program in 2005
Upon completion with Baltimore Studio of Hair Design, she became employed with Great Clips Salon. Although this was her first position after being licensed she continued to work hard and show leadership skills and was an assistant manager for 3 out of 5 years.
Tanette understands that this industry is about freshness, staying above and with the curve of the industry, while becoming a master at your craft. And with this understanding.
She went on to Hair Cuttery. With Hair Cuttery offering additional training in hair coloring, and further training, in out of state seminars like Las Vegas with Redkin, she took advantage of these resources to advance her knowledge in the industry, on universal and local products and mastering her skills.
Although Tanette has a great deal of respect for corporate salons. In 2012 she felt prepared enough given their teachings to start pursuing being a stylist in her own right to artist models, news crews, while still catering to the local community as well.
Currently working under The Coliseum Hair Studio, here she is her own boss and has free reign for creativity and is contracted as one of the lead Stylist.
Which she feels is propelling her into her next endeavor of opening up her own salon suite in the DMV area in 2013.
